Abstract:
The LLNL/Sandia reactor monitoring experiment using a cubic meter scale antineutrino detector has been operating for about 3 months. We now have data through a reactor shutdown, confirming our signal and providing a clear estimate of the backgrounds. I will review the monitoring concept, present our preliminary data, and describe the focus of our work for the remainder of the year. Aside from the possibilities for reactor monitoring, the results, design and trigger system for this detector have some relevance for the problems of passive and active portal monitoring with large segmented scintillator detectors.
