Abstract:
The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) safeguards America's interests from weapons of mass destruction by controlling and reducing the threat providing quality tools and services to the Combatant Commanders. In order to develop a detailed R&D program plan on nuclear detection and related technologies, DTRA hosted a workshop on Nuclear Detection Technology on January 7&8, 2004. The purpose of the workshop was to determine the theoretical capabilities of new and potential nuclear detection technologies (3-5 years and 6-10 years out), and discuss the most promising technologies for DoD investment in each of four categories (gamma, neutron, alternative technologies, and systems integration). The four LLNL representatives who attended this workshop will present highlights from the meeting.
